INDIANAPOLIS — Officials with the United States Department of Agriculture announced on Thursday that some households impacted by the recent severe weather in Indiana are now eligible for the replacement of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits.
Governor provides update on Indiana flood recovery
According to a news release from the USDA, the department allowed Indiana to approve 15-60% of benefits for residents in Lake and Porter counties, as well as 46 specific zip codes. This is for residents who lost food as a result of recent severe storms and flooding.
The waiver also applies to residents in the following zip codes:

In a news release from Braun’s office, the approved replacements are as follows based on the date SNAP recipients’ allotments were originally received before the storm:
- August 5 through August 9: Replacement Percentage – 60%
- July 19 through July 23: Replacement Percentage – 30%
- July 11 through July 17: Replacement Percentage – 15%
Officials said that SNAP replacement benefits will be added directly to eligible recipients’ EBT cards on or around Sept. 26. The state expects that more than 36,500 households will qualify for replacement SNAP benefits, which will result in around $10 million in federal support.
Recipients who reside in other impacted areas are able to request replacement benefits by filing an affidavit with the local office attesting to disaster-related loss, the federal release stated…
