Indy man charged with dealing resulting in death after $35 drug deal leaves young mother dead

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man has been arrested and charged with dealing drugs resulting in death after a fatal overdose on the northeast side.

The victim died from a drug overdose in July 2023 at the Chateau in the Woods Apartments near Binford and Kessler Boulevard East Drive.

The 22-year-old young mother, Shylis Garrett, was found dead on the floor by her boyfriend.

Police claim text messages showed the victim requested “bars” and “addy” before her death.  That’s slang for Xanax and Adderall.

“In this instance, she clearly thought she was getting a Xanax and Adderall and that’s not what the toxicology revealed. It was a fentanyl poisoning,” said DEA assistant special agent in charge Mike Gannon.

46-year-old Rashaan Williams is now accused of supplying the fatal dose of fentanyl-laced pills.

According to the affidavit, calls and text messages show the victim and suspect arranged to meet the night before the death.

That was followed by a Cash App transaction between the pair for just 35 dollars, a small amount of money that proved deadly.
