Indy man arrested on child molestation accusation that stems back to 2020

CARMEL, Ind. — An Indianapolis man is under arrest after a child accused him of molesting her inside a Carmel apartment several years ago.

George A. Smith III is being charged with one count of child molestation, a Level 4 felony.

According to court documents, Carmel police were notified about the alleged molestation on Sept. 3, 2020. Charges weren’t filed against Smith until February 2022.

According to the documents, Smith was watching the child and another girl when the alleged molestation occurred. The victim’s mother told police that Smith threatened to “make her life hell” and sue her if she went to police.

Court records show a warrant for Smith’s arrest was issued on Feb. 2, 2022, after the charges were filed. It wasn’t until Jan. 31, 2024, that Smith was arrested.

Smith is currently being held in Hamilton County Jail on a $40,000 bond.
