‘Be aware of surroundings’: IMPD speaks after 2 women killed in similar ways on Indy’s east side

INDIANAPOLIS — Indy police held a conference “out of an abundance of caution” Friday after two women were killed over the past week “in similar ways” along a stretch of Mitthoeffer Road on the city’s east side.

While the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department did not directly connect the two recent deaths of Shannon Lassere and Marianne Weis , they did provide a list of similarities in the two cases:

  • Both women were found dead near 21st St. and Mitthoeffer Rd.
  • Both women were found about 150 yards from each other
  • Both women were found within days of each other
  • Both women lived in or had strong connections to Indy’s east side
  • Both victims were white females in their 50s
  • Both victims were killed “in a similar way”

Despite being pressed by reporters, IMPD officials did not elaborate further on how the two killings were similar in nature and no official cause of death has been reported.

‘An abundance of caution’

Rather, IMPD’s Acting Chief Chris Bailey made a plea to the public to come forward with any information regarding the deaths. Whether it is surveillance footage from the area or something out of the ordinary that’s been seen recently, IMPD said they want to know.
