Indiana man who survived traumatic accident reflects on his mental health

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The survivor of a car crash in Northwestern Indiana is sharing an update on his mental health.

In a recent YouTube video, Matt Reum opened up about his mental health experiences following a car wreck that left him trapped in his truck for six days after it smashed into a creek in December.

He says as a recent amputee, he’s figuring out how to adapt to his new lifestyle.

“I work 101-5 hour days…that’s given me a lot of work ethic, but here I am now and I can’t go to work,” he said.

“I can’t do the one thing I’ve always done, because I love to work.”

Reum said he also recently experienced an anxiety attack due to an influx of questions about what happened.

“Now I know something else I need to work on. Now I know consistently being asked that 12-14 times in a row can be a little inducing, because it was a very traumatic event.”

Now, he said he’s focusing on continuing to share his experiences with others.

“There are so many avenues where I’m being able to tell my story now, but there are still so many things I want to do, and I want to be able to help more and more people.”
