Colts owner Jim Irsay issued his first public statement in almost a month on Tuesday, sending a message to the team’s fan base.
“On the mend,” Irsay wrote on his X account. “Grateful for all the messages of love and support.”
Irsay, 64, has been recovering from what the team termed a “severe respiratory illness” for an undetermined amount of time.
The Colts first released a statement on Irsay’s illness on Jan. 9.
“He is receiving excellent care and looks forward to returning to the stage as soon as possible,” the initial statement said. “We’ll have no additional information at this time.”
Until Tuesday’s message, Irsay had not written a post on his X account, formerly known as Twitter, since Jan. 8. The Colts owner was present at the team’s win over Pittsburgh on Dec. 16 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
No updates on his condition had been issued since Jan. 17, when the team reiterated that Irsay was still recovering from his respiratory illness in response to breaking news that Irsay had been found unresponsive and breathing abnormally in his home on Dec. 8, according to a Carmel Police Department incident report. A released 911 call from the incident revealed there was concern Irsay was dealing with congestive heart failure at the time.
