Outside Indianapolis, bobcats are a problem

In regards to the bobcat letter by Nancy Tatum, I have a few comments and opinions.

I live in southeastern Owen County. I saw my first bobcat over 20 years ago. I have seen them while hunting for years. I would estimate probably 40 times.

I’ve had them walk through my backyard more than once. Bobcats raided my chicken house. Just about anyone on this side of Indianapolis has probably seen them.

I am a trapper and caught several bobcats in coyote traps over the last 3 seasons. I turned the deceased animals over to DNR officers and I have released the ones that were trapped but alive. I would imagine the folks in the city probably don’t see too many wandering around downtown or along Interstate 465.

But the assertion that someone would call and report sightings just so they would make a season on them is absolutely ludicrous and, honestly, shows how badly you hate hunters or trappers. I hope Senate Bill 241 passes and a bobcat season gets established.
