INDIANAPOLIS — Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department have released more information after an arrest was made on Monday in relation to the VASA Fitness Center shooting earlier this month.
According to previous reports , 20-year-old Steve Valdez-Rivera was arrested and preliminarily charged on Monday with aggravated battery, battery with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness. This comes after a gunfight erupted at the west side gym on Feb. 6, causing multiple injuries.

On Feb. 6, officers with the northwest district of IMPD were dispatched to the VASA Fitness Center on a call of an active shooter. When officers arrived, they found two people inside the business shot, including a 16-year-old shot in the ankle and another man shot in the right calf.
According to court documents, filed on Tuesday in Marion County, surveillance video showed a man, later identified as Valdez-Rivera, enter the business on the evening of Feb. 6. After using some machines in the gym, an argument reportedly began between Valdez-Rivera and a group of three others.
