Man with history of attacking people with hammer sentenced to 60 years

INDIANAPOLIS — A man with a history of attacking people with a hammer was sentenced to 60 years in prison after being found guilty in his latest attack.

Timothy Lamont Parker was found guilty in January of attempted murder, burglary resulting in serious bodily injury, aggravated battery and battery with a deadly weapon.

On Wednesday, a judge handed down his sentence and ordered Parker to serve 40 years in prison. Parker was also hit with an additional 20-year prison stint due to being a habitual offender.

Previous reports reveal that Parker has a history of picking up a hammer and assaulting people. In 2013, Parker was accused of hitting a man in the back of the head with a hammer. Only a few weeks before that attack, Parker allegedly hit his neighbor with a hammer for playing a harmonica.

Parker’s attempted murder conviction stems from a March 13, 2022, assault.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said officers were called to the 2800 block of E. 10th Street after receiving a 911 call about a man being beaten with a hammer. A witness reportedly heard yelling and approached the apartment in time to see Parker striking the victim repeatedly with a hammer.
