Local pedestrian safety group raises concerns about ‘dangerous’ east side intersection

INDIANAPOLIS — A local pedestrian safety group is concerned about an east side intersection after three people were hit at East New York Street and North Sherman Drive in the last few weeks.

“The fact that there were three all within a short period of time at a location where we haven’t seen activity before is definitely concerning,” said Eric Holt, the founder of Indy Pedestrian Safety Crisis.

Holt said the intersection of East New York Street and North Sherman Drive has been on his radar in recent weeks after three people were struck at the intersection this month alone.

Police reports from IMPD show one of the three incidents was a hit-and-run.

And now, Holt said he wants the city to step up.

“It’s alarming, shocking, and disappointing,” said Holt. “I’ve had a lot of great disappointment in the last two years of doing this and just how little I’ve seen the city do as a response to this.”
