2 killed in single-vehicle crash in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Ind. – Police are investigating after a man and woman were killed in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Lawrence.

According to the Lawrence Police Department, the crash occurred in the 7200 block of East 56th Street, near Lawrence Central High School. Officers were dispatched to the area at around 3:11 a.m. after receiving a report about a car that had hit a utility pole.

Police say a man and woman were driving in the same vehicle before the crash. Investigators believe the car lost control, drove off the roadway and struck an AES utility pole.

Both the man and woman died from their injuries, according to police.

Investigators say the crash resulted in nearly 400 power outages to homes and businesses along East 56th Street for several hours.

AES crews were dispatched to the scene to repair the damage, but did not give an estimation on how long the repairs would take.

Investigators believe that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
