Family demands action after ‘brutal attack’ at Perry Meridian High School leaves student hospitalized

INDIANAPOLIS — The family of a student who was reportedly attacked last week by a fellow student at Perry Meridian High School is now demanding accountability from the school district.

The attack

A 15-year-old PMHS student was arrested last Thursday by school police officers after the “unprovoked and violent hallway attack.” In a statement sent Monday, attorneys hired by the victim’s family said they are calling for immediate reforms within Perry Township Schools.

“We trusted the school to keep our son safe, and that trust has been completely shattered,” the family said. “How can parents have any faith in a system that allows repeated bullying and violence to continue unchecked? Our child went to school safe and whole and was returned to us with lifelong and permanent injuries.”

Attorneys for the family said the student who was attacked had been a victim of ongoing bullying at the school.

The student reportedly suffered severe head and facial injuries and had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance for his injuries — which lawyers said require long-term and possibly lifelong treatment. A photo of the student, edited for graphic content, can be seen below:
