INDIANAPOLIS — A woman had a narrow escape after an 80-foot oak tree collapsed on her car while she was stopped at a stop sign on the north side.

This happened late Friday around 6:00 between Hoover Road and Spring Mill Lane where parts of Hurricane Helene took place.

The massive, 200-year-old tree crashed onto her gray SUV, shattering the windshield and leaving her trapped, just inches from serious injury. The woman moved to the back of the vehicle, where neighbors quickly rushed to the scene.

Todd Tetrault and his neighbor, Terry Keuhl, saw the debris and worked together to clear branches from the hatchback. Their help allowed just enough space for the woman to crawl out of the back, where paramedics arrived at the scene.

The woman had almost no injuries. She only torn pants and a missing pair of glasses.

“It’s unbelievable. You see the damage and wonder how she wasn’t hurt,” said Tetrault in disbelief.

The tree not only destroyed her car but also took down power lines in the area. Neighbors continued to help by clearing the scene from the debris.
