The 2024 SewaDiwali campaign in Indiana is set to light up lives once again from September 27th to November 10th, bringing together a powerful collaboration of the state’s Dharmic organizations. Rooted in the spirit of “Sewa Paramo Dharma,” or selfless service, SewaDiwali reflects the ethos that service to humanity is service to divinity.
This annual initiative, which started with humble beginnings, has grown into a significant community event. The campaign provides essential food items and support to disadvantaged families across Indianapolis and beyond. This year, the beneficiaries include organizations like the Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center, Boys and Girls Club of Indianapolis, Fueled for School, and Welcome Basket— all of whom will receive critical aid through the community’s collective efforts.
Addressing Food Deserts in Indiana Communities
One of the significant challenges faced by many families across Indianapolis is access to nutritious food, especially in areas known as food deserts. These are neighborhoods where affordable and healthy food options are limited or non-existent due to the lack of nearby grocery stores or fresh food markets. Many of the families SewaDiwali supports reside in such areas, where they often struggle to find the nourishment they need to lead healthy lives.
