Feds permanently shut down Indy-based tax preparer

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis-area tax return preparer has been permanently shut down after being accused of adding false information to his customers’ tax filings.

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana entered the permanent injunction against Madison Solutions LLC, a tax prep company owned by Juan Santiago.

Santiago and Madison Solutions are accused in a civil lawsuit of using a variety of schemes to improperly reduce their customers’ tax liabilities or to obtain tax refunds for customers who were not entitled to said refunds.

Santiago is accused of repeatedly placing false or incorrect items, deductions, exemptions or statuses on customers’ returns without their knowledge, the lawsuit alleges. This includes acts such as filing for child tax credits for customers who did not qualify for them and reporting fictitious businesses on tax returns to reduce taxable income.

While Santiago is a resident of Lakeland, Flordia, he traveled to Indianapolis during tax season to operate Madison Solutions.
