INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Crime Guns Task Force (ICGTF) has arrested a man who caused a fatal crash, illegally possessed a firearm and fled from police.
In a Facebook post , the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department reported that the ICGTF located and apprehended 19-year-old Eric Simpson last week. Simpson was taken into custody after police served warrants for his arrest in the 1600 block of Kessler Boulevard North Drive.
The warrants were related to a fatal crash he allegedly caused and his illegal possession of a machine gun.
Simpson first got on IMPD’s radar in February. At that time, he was arrested in the 1000 block of North Linwood Avenue because he possessed a firearm equipped with a machine gun conversion device.
In July, more than four months after his February arrest, Simpson was spotted carrying a firearm in downtown Indianapolis. IMPD officers saw him and knew he was a prohibited person that could not legally possess a gun.
During the July incident, police attempted to conduct a traffic stop with Simpson because they saw him with a gun. Officers’ efforts to pull Simpson over were unsuccessful, as he fled when law enforcement began to try to make a traffic stop.
