Marion County voting sites run low on election ballots

CLERMONT, Ind. — At least two Marion County polling locations have run out of election ballots Tuesday as local officials rework the site restocking system.

The polling location at the Clermont Lions Club in Clermont briefly ran out of ballots around noon Tuesday, with over a dozen people left in line. Marion County Clerk Dan Goldblatt confirmed that the location was out of ballots “for under five minutes.”

“The mechanic has arrived there I can confirm and delivered more ballots and to my knowledge that was the only site that ran out, but they were out for under five minutes,” Goldblatt said around 12:30 p.m.

An anonymous poll worker at the location told FOX59/CBS4 that the site had requested more ballots an hour before running out. Karen Flaherty, an inspector who has worked the past three years at the Clermont polling location, said she has never seen an Election Day today.

“We ran out of ballots. Normally it’s never been this busy. We were given 1,000 ballots and we ran out of them,” she said. “I started getting nervous when we were at about 750 people, so I called and asked for backup ballots and unfortunately they didn’t get here in time.”
