Hear from Indiana’s Senate seat winner

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Republican Jim Banks has won Indiana’s open Senate seat in this year’s election.

The state’s election featured a rare open U.S. Senate seat as Sen. Mike Braun will serve as Indiana’s new governor.

“This is an incredible honor,” said Jim Banks. “I am overwhelmed by it. There have only been a few United States Senators from Indiana in my lifetime. I don’t take it lightly. I have a lot to learn about how the Senate operates different from the House.”

Also vying for the Senate seat was Democratic candidate Dr. Valerie McCray , and Libertarian candidate Andrew Horning .

In Vigo County, Jim Banks won with 23,476 votes or 58.3% to Valerie McCray’s 16,541 votes and Andrew Horning’s 1,011 votes.

The 2024 General Election showed an advantage for republicans in Vigo County. And the bellwether county stands successful, as Donald Trump won the county and the presidential election.

“Donald Trump needs Senators like me back in Congress to make sure that we support his policies. When he’s inaugurated on January 20th, he’s immediately going to sign executive orders to go back to the Trump border policies.”
