INDIANAPOLIS—An Indianapolis man is dead after he was shot in his own bed at a troubled apartment complex on the city’s near west side.
The deadly shooting marked the third homicide at the same complex this year and the fifth homicide in more than three years.
Just before 6 p.m. Saturday at the Maple Creek Village Apartments near Michigan St. and Holt Rd., a man identified by family as Antonio Trotter was ambushed and shot to death in his apartment.
The victim turned 63 years old the day before he was killed.
Because of health issues, the victim had been reportedly bedridden. The motive for the homicide remains unclear.
“We’ve been living just like our life stopped,” said Natalie Waites.
Waites doesn’t know Trotter, but she does know the pain his family is feeling because her family is still grieving the loss of 17-year-old Coreon Waites who was shot to death in the same complex last year.
“I mean we are just now getting up and putting life back together,” said Natalie Waites.
Coreon Waites was killed in March 2023 after being driven to the complex by a friend.
