CLINTON, Ind. (WANE) — A Clinton man is celebrating after discovering he won $1 million Mega Millions ticket on Christmas Eve.
Micah Thacker of Clinton, had heard all the buzz surrounding the billion-dollar Mega Millions so he decided to pick up a ticket. Then on Christmas Eve, his wife discovered on a Facebook group that the winning ticket had been sold in their town, specifically at Buck’s Clinton located at 1458 E. State Road 163 in Clinton, the location Thacker had bought his ticket.
After returning home from picking up Christmas Eve dinner, Thacker scanned the ticket in the Hoosier Lottery app where he got a message that his prize was too large to pick up at a retailer, that’s when he checked the winning numbers and discovered he was the million dollar winner.
With the prize money the family plans to pay off their house and their daughter’s student loans.
The estimated jackpot of $1.22 billion Mega Millions is ranked as the fifth-largest in the game’s history, with currently a 1 in 24 chance odds. According to the Mega Millions website, there were more than 31.4 million winning tickets across all prize tiers during the 31-drawing run, which began after the last jackpot was won in Texas on September 10.
