Snowfall starting earlier than expected; Greater Cincinnati to see ‘rapid accumulations’

Update, 10:55 a.m.: Boone County, Kentucky, has declared a Level 1 snow emergency Sunday as Winter Storm Blair enters the region, according to a press release issued around 10:40 a.m.

A Level 1 snow emergency means motorists should use caution due to hazardous road conditions resulting from snow or ice. Vehicles should be moved from the road so they do not impede road treatment and snowplows.

Boone County is projected to get 3 to 7 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service’s forecast for the area. The whole region could get up to 10 inches of snow and sleet accumulation.

The snow emergency does not prohibit travel to and from work, however, residents should contact their employers to determine whether they should report to work.

Original reporting: The National Weather Service at Wilmington forecast now says snow is starting earlier than expected amid a regionwide winter storm warning.

The winter storm warning remains in effect from 10 a.m. Sunday to midnight Monday for Greater Cincinnati. Previously, meteorologists were predicting snowfall would start early afternoon and on, but they now say it could start as early as 10 a.m. or 11 a.m.
