‘They run like deer’: ‘Feral’ cows seen roaming in northeast Indiana

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — For more than a year, a pair of peculiar cows have been roaming parts of Indiana near Fort Wayne city limits, and the bizarre bovines have been spotted recently by residents while also getting the attention of the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.

The cows belonged to the family that runs Werner’s Garage, an auto repair shop off Fritz Road that specializes in servicing European-made vehicles, until they got loose one day. Since then, the cows have stayed roughly within the confines of the area around Fritz and Cook roads, but have never been caught.

On Thursday, a WANE 15 viewer reached out about how family members who live on Cook Road have encountered the cows through the trails, and piles, of evidence they leave behind.

The cows have also been under some surveillance by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department. Adam Stresemann, a field service officer for the department, said he first received a call about the cows in March when they were blocking a road in the area…
