INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — On Wednesday, The Indianapolis Zoo announced the winning name for the male baby orangutan born in the Simon Skjodt International Orangutan Center on Feb. 20, 2025. Following a naming contest that accrued 9,000 votes, the winning name for the baby was Edi, which means “handsome one.”
According to a release from the Indianapolis Zoo, 9,000 votes were cast; Edi captured 50% of the vote, followed by Ketambe with 38% and Lada with 12%.
Edi is the second orangutan birth at the Indianapolis Zoo since the opening of the Simon Skjodt International Orangutan Center in 2014.
