No Easter Sunday washout; More storms to open workweek in central Indiana

Noisy Saturday morning across the region

Between 3 and 6 a.m., storms rumbling through Central Indiana may have awakened you. Some of those storms came with severe thunderstorm warnings. We received s everal damage reports and power outages in the wake of those storms. Indianapolis received 1.13″ of rain with an unofficial peak wind gust of 67 MPH. You may see reports flying around of an 84 MPH wind gust at the Indy Airport. NWS meteorologists confirm to The Weather Authority that none of the radar velocities from that time or nearby weather observations support a gust that high.

It’s likely there were iso. gusts closer to 70 MPH. Regardless, some clean up was needed in the wake of the storms. Indianapolis’ 1.13″ of rain is the first measurable rain since April 9th. Additionally, it pushes our month-to-date total to 7.16″ of rain. That’s the second wettest April to date on record (only wetter April 1st-19th: 103 years ago in 1922 when 8.17″ occurred).

Improvements for Easter

The good news is the severe threat is long over. All that remains are scattered showers Saturday night through early Easter Sunday. If you have any Easter Egg Hunts planned in the afternoon, you should be okay with perhaps a peek or two of the sun. If we get some sun, highs could soar into the 70s. If we hit/surpass 74°, it would be the warmest Easter Sunday since 2021.
