Indiana Gov signs border commission bill

After final approval by the Indiana House, the Indiana-Illinois border bill is headed to Gov. Mike Braun’s desk to be signed into law. The measure would establish a commission to explore the possibility of adjusting the boundaries between the two states and allow some disgruntled Illinois counties to become part of Indiana.

Thirty-three counties have passed an advisory referendum indicating their desire to leave Illinois, with seven voting in the most recent November election. No county, most of which are located in rural areas of central and southern Illinois, has voted down a secession referendum, with the election results averaging 74% in favor.
