Sisterly calling: Nurses honor guard pays tribute to six sisters who shared the profession

GREENFIELD, Ind. ( DAILY REPORTER ) — When Lynn Langenberg and her 24 cousins were growing up, there was never a shortage of aunts around to tend to scraped knees and sore throats.

Her mother, Joan Asher — a longtime nurse for Mt. Vernon schools — was one of six sisters in the Uebelhor family, each of whom became a registered nurse back in the 1950s and ‘60s.

When the youngest graduated from nursing school in 1963, the Associated Press came out to the family home in Jasper, Indiana, to write a story that ran nationwide…
