BEECH GROVE – A 12-year-old is in the hospital recovering from injuries sustained after being shot while riding in the back seat of a vehicle on I-465. The shooting stemmed from a road rage incident in which detectives believe two drivers fired shots toward one another’s vehicles while driving on I-465. The driver of the car occupied by the injured child was one of the two people who detectives believe fired shots.
May 2, 2025, at approximately 1:35 p.m., first responders were dispatched to a crash on Emerson Avenue at the ramp from I-465 westbound. Upon arrival, Beech Grove Police Officers found two vehicles damaged from the collision. Inside a black Honda SUV was a 12-year-old child who had injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. There were also what appeared to be multiple bullet holes in the rear driver’s side door of the black SUV. The occupants of the other vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The second vehicle in the crash was not involved in the road rage incident; they were on Emerson Avenue.
The 12-year-old was rushed to a local hospital and is in stable condition. Also inside the black SUV was an infant who was not injured but was transported to a hospital as a precaution…
