Why is Indianapolis returning Michigan and New York streets to two-way traffic?

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis will soon return New York and Michigan streets to two-way traffic in an effort to improve safety on the near east side.

As News 8 first reported Monday night , the Indianapolis City-County Council has introduced a proposal for deletion of the two one-way streets to ensure city code is in line with the updates the project made.

The change would preserve the current amount of eastbound and westbound lanes, but Indianapolis Department of Public Works thinks it will improve safety by reducing speeds because people could not legally pass each other to increase their speed…
