Court docs: Indy woman was drunk, high and traveling 35+ mph over speed limit at time of February fatal crash

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis woman was drunk, high and traveling more than 35 mph over the speed limit at the time of a crash that killed one person and injured three others earlier this year downtown, according to court documents.

Estajah Bartley was charged May 8 with the following in connection with the Feb. 22 crash that killed 37-year-old Alexander Roy Melton:

  • Causing death when operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated
  • Causing death when operating a motor vehicle with an ACE of .08 or more
  • Causing death when operating a motor vehicle with a Schedule I or II controlled substance
  • Reckless homicide (using vehicle)
  • Causing serious bodily injury when operating a vehicle while intoxicated
  • Causing serious bodily injury when operating a vehicle while intoxicated
  • Causing serious bodily injury when operating a motor vehicle with an ACE of .08
  • Causing serious bodily injury when operating a motor vehicle with an ACE of .08
  • Causing serious bodily injury when operating a vehicle with a Schedule I or II substance
  • Causing serious bodily injury when operating a vehicle with a Schedule I or II substance

The crash, which involved a Nissan sedan, Kia sedan and US Postal Service truck, happened around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 near East McCarty Street and Madison Avenue.
