Docs: Man arrested for allegedly stealing $24k worth of checks

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. — A Hancock County man was arrested after he allegedly stole thousands of dollars worth of stolen checks.

Douglas Crawford, 21, was charged with the following offenses:

  • Corrupt Business Influence
  • Fraud, three counts
  • Theft where value of property is between $750 and $50k

According to court documents, in March 2024 an investigation took place that found that multiple checks had been stolen. Authorities conducted an interview with a man who was found in a stolen truck that was reportedly purchased from Crawford. When the man received the truck there was a significant amount of mail and cards that he put in box with the intent to dispose.

The man in the stolen truck allegedly said that he knew that Crawford, ‘makes fraudulent checks. and steals account information off of checks that he takes from mailboxes,’ according to reports. The court documents allege that most checks were stolen from southeastern Hancock County…
