Fire at the Riley Towers in downtown Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — Multiple individuals were forced to evacuate their apartment complex after a fire, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department.

Crews were dispatched on Thursday at 12:43 p.m. to 225 E North St at the Riley Towers building 1 on a report of a fire alarm. Upon arrival to the 30 story structure, residents were evacuating and told firefighters that there was smoke on the 14th floor.

According to IFD, Riley Towers does not have a sprinkler system because it was built under a previous fire code that didn’t require a sprinkler system for that type of occupancy.
