The Centers for Disease Control has issued another alert, pertaining to a salmonella outbreak that has been linked back to eggs that were recently recalled. Indiana was one of the states affected in this recall, along with California, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Wyoming, New Mexico, Nebraska, and Illinois.
The eggs in question were sold in nine different grocery stores across the country, but there is only one store in Indiana and Illinois that sold the eggs. The CDC released the following announcement:
August Egg Company of Hilmar, CA is recalling 1,700,000 dozen brown cage free and brown certified organic eggs, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
How Do I Know If My Eggs Are Affected By This?
The recalled eggs will have printed on the carton or package a plant code number P-6562 or CA5330 with the Julian Dates between 32 to 126.
