Chicago, Illinois – A broad swath of the Midwest faces an elevated tornado threat Wednesday, with severe storms expected to erupt from central Illinois to northern Ohio. Communities along this corridor should brace for damaging winds, large hail, and the possibility of a strong tornado between noon and 10 p.m.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, conditions will become increasingly favorable for rotating storms across parts of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. A Level 2 to Level 3 risk zone (slight to enhanced) covers several major metro areas, including Chicago, Indianapolis, Detroit, and Toledo. The most dangerous storms could produce isolated strong tornadoes and very large hail.
