Medicaid users fear loss of coverage
GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — Jonah Jacobs requires thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment to carry out basic life functions.
Jacobs, 24, has Duchenne muscular dystrophy and has used a wheelchair since he was 16. His current wheelchair was modified from its previous owner. Jacobs has already had to replace its front casters, its main wheels need new tires and one of the mud flaps that protects its sensitive batteries recently snapped off — a more than $1,300 repair, according to a bill Jacobs’ mother showed News 8.
He needs a specialized lift to get him in and out of bed, onto and off of the toilet, and onto the floor to do physical therapy. The one he has is falling apart but a new one costs $5,000…
