Citizens Action Coalition condemns severe electric bill increases throughout Indiana

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Citizens Action Coalition are condemning Indiana utilities after imposing what they describe as “severe” electric bill increases on residential customers over the last two decades.

CAC used data from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to compare July 1 residential bills for 1,00 kWh from 2024 and 2025 across Indiana’s five investor-owned electric utilities, including CenterPoint and Duke Energy Indiana. According to a release, CenterPoint bills surged $44 a month after the IURC approved a base rate increase, and Duke Energy raised residential bills by nearly $26 per month to subsidize failing coal plants.

“Things keep getting worse for Hoosier consumers and our state leaders continue to allow it to happen,” said CAC Executive Director Kerwin Olson. “Based on this trend, the rhetoric regarding affordability emanating from the Statehouse appears to be nothing more than lip service. Hoosier consumers can no longer afford monopoly pricing. Something must change, soon.”…
