New Mexico Piñon Coffee has issued a voluntary recall for its Dark Piñon Single Serve 10-count cups for use with Keurig coffee makers due to a potential safety issue related to the packaging.
Why the Coffee Pods Are Being Recalled
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that food-safe ink may be introduced into the coffee cup during brewing, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. They say there was an issue with the application of the clear coat seal on the cups.
Clear coat seal on the lid of the single serve cups did not get applied consistently to all cups in the production run. This resulted in the food safe ink printing on some cups to run when exposed to high temperature, high-pressure water used in a K-cup machine. – FDA
Which Coffee Products Are Affected
The recall affects only products with Lot Code 251749. No other lot codes or New Mexico Piñon Coffee products are part of this recall. The company reports no illnesses or injuries associated with the product and is acting out of an abundance of caution.
