The Indiana State Fair kicked off over the weekend, and earlier today, they announced a last-minute policy update aimed at ensuring a safer experience for all 2025 fairgoers, particularly during evening hours.
When the Chaperone Rule Applies
Effective immediately, minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult during specific times of day to enter the fairgrounds, located in Indianapolis, Indiana. According to the updated policy, anyone under 18 will need to be with a parent, legal guardian, or a chaperone aged 25 or older if they wish to be admitted into the fair after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, and after 4 PM on Friday and Sunday.
Who Counts as a Chaperone at the Indiana State Fair?
The new policy limits each adult to chaperoning no more than four minors, and it also states that the chaperones must remain on the fairgrounds property while those minors are in attendance. Officials with the Indiana State Fair say that unaccompanied minors will not be allowed to enter during the designated hours. Additionally, visitors to the fair may be required to show a valid driver’s license or government-issued ID to verify their age.
Group Events and Competitions Exempt from New Rule
Fair officials say organized and ticketed group outings, as well as those who are participating in official fair competitions, will be exempt from the policy update. They say existing chaperone procedures for those activities are already in place.
Fair Officials Focus on Safety and Guest Conduct
This new policy is part of the fair’s broader effort to enhance safety and security across the grounds. In a statement, fair officials said the changes reflect the State Fair’s commitment to creating a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for all guests.
The safety and security of Fairgoers remains a priority at the Indiana State Fair. With this standard of uncompromised safety in mind, Indiana State Fair officials are introducing this enhancement to existing protocols.
Fair management also reminded visitors that they reserve the right to refuse admission or remove individuals whose behavior violates local, state, or federal laws—or is deemed illegal, disruptive, or offensive.
