IMPD Joins National Effort to Crack Down on Drunk Driving in Indianapolis

In an attempt to curb the perils of impaired driving, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) is joining national efforts with a tough message to motorists: “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” Starting today to August 30, IMPD will be ramping up their patrols in conjunction with sobriety checkpoints aimed at detecting and dissuading drunk driving behavior. Found on IMPD’s social media accounts, they remind commuters to act responsibly and to orchestrate a safe return home should they find themselves under the influence.

A prominent fixture of their campaign, highlighted on their Facebook page, urges individuals to plan ahead, designate a sober driver, or call upon a taxi or rideshare service. The announcement, coming in anticipation of the increased patrols, serves as a stark reminder that the consequences extend far beyond getting caught, endangering the safety of everyone on the road.
