Indiana Falls Behind in Women’s Equality – Here’s Where We Rank in 2025

When it comes to equality between men and women, most of us would like to think we’re moving in the right direction. But how are we really doing – especially here in Indiana? A new 2025 study from WalletHub gives us some answers, and let’s just say, the Hoosier state still has plenty of room for improvement.

How the Study Measured Women’s Equality

To figure out which states are doing the best (and worst) when it comes to women’s equality, WalletHub looked at three big areas: the workplace, education and health, and political empowerment. In other words, they wanted to know if women are getting the same opportunities as men in their jobs, their education, and even their ability to influence laws and policies.

Indiana’s 2025 Women’s Equality Ranking

And here’s the tough part: Indiana ranked as the 39th best (or the 12th worst) state in the country for women’s equality.

Breaking Down the Numbers

Here’s how it breaks down:

  • Indiana came in 39th overall.
  • When it comes to the workplace environment, we’re 35th.
  • On education and health, we did a little better at 23rd.
  • For political empowerment, we landed at 47th.
  • And the stat that really stings? Indiana has the 47th largest Political Representation Gap in America.

As a lifelong Hoosier, I’d much rather be celebrating a report saying, “Indiana ranks among the best states for schools” or “Indiana shines as a leader in opportunity.” But the truth is, these numbers show we’ve got some catching up to do.

The good news? Studies like this are a reminder that while progress has been made, there’s still plenty of room for improvement. And when we know where we stand, we can roll up our sleeves and start working toward real change – so that future reports paint a much brighter picture for women in Indiana…
