Opinion: Agree or disagree, keep humanity in every exchange

Disagreement is not the enemy of community. In fact, when we see things differently, it can be a sign that we care deeply — and ultimately, it can make our community stronger. But lately, the way we handle disagreement has too often become a contest to prove who is right, rather than an opportunity to acknowledge and understand.

What if, instead of rushing to defend our own position, we paused for just a moment and considered the human being on the other side? Behind every opinion lies perspective, experience, and sometimes raw emotion. Those feelings are not less important than our own. They deserve to be recognized and respected, even when we don’t agree.

Listening doesn’t mean surrendering your beliefs. It means granting dignity to the person across from you. It means creating space where both voices matter equally, even if the outcome doesn’t change…
