No ICE detainees in prisons or Atterbury yet
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Both state and federal officials told News 8 Friday they’re still working out details before they begin holding ICE detainees at Camp Atterbury or the Miami Correctional Facility.
More than a month has passed since Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced Camp Atterbury would be used as a temporary detention facility for people suspected of being in the country illegally. Gov. Mike Braun on Aug. 1 announced the Indiana Department of Correction would make up to 1,000 beds available at the Miami Corrrectional Facility near Peru as part of a larger immigration enforcement cooperation strategy.
Spokespeople for both ICE and the IDOC told News 8 detainees are not currently being held in state facilities. They said state and federal officials were still working out details. Braun said something similar late Friday morning…
