Former WISH-TV Host ‘Super Jay’ Johnson dies at 78

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Jay Johnson, a renowned broadcaster who spent over 50 years in radio and television, has died at the age of 78 after a long illness.

Johnson, known as “Super Jay,” began his career in 1968 and worked at several stations, including Chicago’s WVON, where he helped cement the station’s role as a premier platform for Black culture and community. He later became program director at Indianapolis’ WTLC, where he transformed the station into a top-rated leader and helped make it a beacon for the Black community.
