The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has announced a change to its vehicle identification number (VIN) inspection process. Starting September 2, VIN inspections will shift from being conducted by patrol officers in the field to being offered as a stationary service at designated IMPD roll call locations. This adjustment is intended to reduce non-emergency duties for patrol officers, allowing for improved response to priority incidents.
