MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. – A public prayer vigil is scheduled Monday outside Miami Correctional Facility.
Clergy, church leaders and members of the community will gather outside the facility to show support for the immigrant community.
State Budget Committee approves $16 million for Miami Correctional Facility upgrades
Protests have been held at the facility over the summer after Gov. Mike Braun revealed the state would expand Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention space at Miami Correctional to hold up to 1,000 undocumented immigrants.
Leaders from the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis and Northern Indiana are hosting the prayer vigil, which will include scripture readings, songs and “prayer calling for compassion, dignity, and justice for immigrants and refugees.”

Organizers are concerned those detained at the facility may not have criminal records. They cited data from the CATO Institute that showed “65 percent of people taken by ICE had no convictions, 93 percent no violent convictions.”…
