Adult, child hurt after jumping from 2nd story to escape west side apartment fire

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A terrifying situation occurred overnight on the city’s west side when people were forced to jump from their apartments to escape a massive fire.It happened around 3:15 a.m. Friday morning on Port Au Prince Street. Crews with the Wayne Township Fire Department say the flames spread so quickly that the main stairway, the only way out for many families, was completely cut off. People scrambled to get out, some through windows.

Eight units are destroyed, another four very damaged, with the smell of smoke still in the air.
