STUDY: IN one of the riskiest states for deadly police pursuits

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A new study has revealed the states where drivers are most likely to fatally crash when fleeing from police, and Indiana is in the top ten.

Researchers say the research, conducted by Michael Kelly Personal Injury Lawyers, analyzed the latest fatal crash data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), examining how many fatal crashes each state recorded in 2023 and what percentage of those were because of a police pursuit.

Researchers say, nationwide, an average of 1.18% of fatal crashes resulted from high-speed chases. Despite this, six states have had zero fatal crashes due to police chases. Vermont came in at number one, while Nebraska came in last. Indiana, however, ranked six out of ten.
