Indianapolis OKs rezoning to allow duplex project for homeless people

City approves duplexes for homeless on church property

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development has approved rezoning for the construction of 10 duplexes to house homeless people on the property of Lynhurst Baptist Church on the west side of the city.

The project is a collaboration between Lynhurst Baptist Church and the nonprofit Sanctuary Indy. They aim to transform the church’s land into a supportive housing community for homeless people with diagnosed disabilities.

Michelle Shelburne, founder and executive director of Sanctuary Indy, said, “So, we are following a successful model that comes from other states, and other states are growing.”…
