Man sentenced to 8 years for seriously injuring his 6-year-old son

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis man has been sentenced to 12 years for seriously injuring his 6-year-old son, including punching him in the face and stomping on him.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced Friday that Jeffrey Redd has been sentenced to 12 years with eight years in prison and four years suspended. In September, Redd was convicted of two counts of battery resulting in serious bodily injury to a person less than 14 years old and domestic battery resulting in bodily injury to a person less than 14 years old for violent abuse that resulted in the serious injuries to his 6-year-old son. Redd was found guilty-as-charged after a two-day jury trial.

“This sentence is a reflection of our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our children,” said Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears. “Instead of protecting his young son, the defendant inflicted harm upon him and will now spend years in prison. We remain grateful to this young child for his bravery and sharing his story, and to his teacher who’s quick reporting ensured the abuse would stop.”…
