A simple honk meant to move traffic forward turned deadly in Indianapolis. As a result, leaving a young man’s life cut short and a community mourning. Police are calling it an “absolutely senseless” act of road rage.
According to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, 21-year-old Kentrell Settles was shot and killed on October 17. This came after honking at a driver who refused to move at a green light. The suspect was identified as 23-year-old Deborah Benefiel. She allegedly followed Settles’ vehicle, yelled at him, and then opened fire through his car’s back seat. Thus, killing him instantly.
Witnesses and investigators say Settles, a former high school basketball player and father, was simply trying to move traffic along. However, that’s when the situation spiraled. Prosecutor Ryan Mears described the case as “an avoidable, tragic example of how anger and a firearm can destroy two lives in seconds.”…
