Man sentenced for dealing drugs that led to death on Monaco Drive

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for his role in a July 2023 overdose death on the city’s northeast side.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office on Friday announced that Rashaan Uriel Williams, 48, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for his role in the dealing death of Shylis Garrett. In October, Williams was found guilty of dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death after a three-day trial. Williams was also convicted of the habitual offender sentencing enhancement.

On July 14, 2023, a deputy coroner with the Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) was dispatched to an apartment in the 4000 block of Monaco Drive regarding a death investigation.
